The Ultimate Stag Do Planning Checklist – Get Ahead of the Game!
Planning a stag do can be a daunting task, especially if you’re the best man or a close mate stepping up to the challenge. With so many moving parts – from budget wrangling to last-minute flakes – getting ahead of the game is essential. Whether you’re planning a wild weekend abroad or a local adventure, having a solid checklist will keep things running smoothly.
Why Planning Early is Key
Leaving things to the last minute is a recipe for stress, overspending, and missing out on the best experiences. Venues and activities get booked up quickly, and the longer you wait, the higher the chance of logistical nightmares. A well-thought-out plan means:
Less stress – You’ll know what’s happening and when.
More savings – Early bookings often mean better deals.
Higher turnout – The sooner you plan, the easier it is for everyone to commit.
Where to Start?
The key to a successful stag do is breaking it down into manageable steps. Here’s a tried-and-tested planning structure to keep you on track:
Early Stages (12-18 Months Before)
✅ Speak to the VIPs (the groom and key mates) – get a rough idea of must-have attendees. ✅ Pick potential dates and destinations – get input from the group but don’t overcomplicate it. ✅ Create a WhatsApp group to keep communication easy. ✅ Get a rough idea of budget expectations with a quick poll. ✅ Consider taking a small deposit early to secure bookings quickly.
Mid Stages (12-2 Months Before)
✅ Finalize and book accommodation – confirm payment deadlines. ✅ Encourage everyone to sort out their own transport. ✅ Choose and book key activities – don’t leave it too late! ✅ Research and book pubs, bars, and meal reservations. ✅ Confirm all bookings and check what’s included in your accommodation and activities.
Final Stages (1 Month Before)
✅ Settle the final numbers and chase up any payments. ✅ Send out an itinerary with timings to the WhatsApp group. ✅ Choose a theme (if applicable) and give people plenty of notice. ✅ Plan any extras – dress-up gear, forfeits, dares, or stag pranks. ✅ Organize an online food delivery or assign items for people to bring. ✅ Send a reminder the day before – double-checking for any last-minute issues.
Prepare for the Flakes….
Not everyone who says “I’m in!” will actually turn up. A rough budget early on will help filter out the maybes. Remember, everyone’s keen until money gets involved, so expect dropouts and plan accordingly.
