This well-equipped and spacious Ambergate accommodation was built in the 1840s as the chief engineer’s residence during the construction of the Midland Railway and has now been sensitively modernised and extended to offer terrific accommodation in this lively and attraction-rich region of Derbyshire.
The house retains some original character and much Mediterranean styling, with a cast-iron wood stove, pine doors, and many areas of Spanish-tiled floors with scatter rugs. Sensitive remodelling has created a comfortable lounge with a pretty morning room. The picture windows look across the old Station to river meadows and valley woodland below, with plenty of space for groups to spread out.
The BBQ, covered terrace, conservatory and inset patio chess board are great fun!
On the ground floor of this Ambergate accommodation, there’s a large open-plan lounge with a wood stove and dining area and a separate sitting/games area (with table football). A large beamed conservatory is through double doors from the lounge, with a separate washroom off. The quality-fitted galley kitchen has access to the living room, conservatory, and a serving hatch to the terrace.
There are six en-suite bedrooms, no’s 1-5, with wall-mounted remote-control TVs. The top floor vaulted attic triple-bedded room (no TV). There is a full-sized framed double sofa bed in the conservatory.
Oil-fired central heating from twin systems and a wood stove in the living room (2 baskets of logs supplied from 1 November to Easter).
Satellite TV/ DVD with video & family films, Wi-Fi, sizeable US-style fridge freezer with ice maker.
There is a roomy front terrace with an inset tiled chess board – chess pieces on request – with fine views up the wooded Derwent Valley and a large and secluded rear terrace with a covered barbecue area and rustic outdoor dining table. Extra drinks fridge in the barbecue area. Parking for six cars.
